Alyssa Northrop, MPH, Therapeutic Massage
Having fostered a working knowledge of structural integration and body awareness through years of modern dance and voice performance, Alyssa Northrop strives to help her clients achieve a healthy, knowledgeable relationship with their own bodies. Ms. Northrop completed her massage training at the Ann Arbor Institute of Massage Therapy in 2002 and deepened her study of human anatomy, physiology, and related sciences through coursework at the University of Michigan. She further refined her work as a massage therapist at Bellanina Day Spa in Ann Arbor through 2005. During this time she performed and trained other massage therapists in Hot Stone Massage, Prenatal Massage, Raindrop Therapy, Lymph Drainage, Belavi Facelift Massage, and a variety of other treatments. Ms. Northrop specializes in delivering therapeutic work with a fluidity and grace that allows the body to relax and respond to the treatment more effectively. She employs her training in Neuromuscular Therapy and Myofascial Release to address trigger points and adhesions that cause pain and restrict range of motion. Ms. Northrop also develops personalized stretching and strengthening exercises, which naturally lead to more permanent relief of symptoms through a more harmonious posture and healthier way of movement.
In 2008, Ms. Northrop completed a Masters of Public Health with a focus in Human Nutrition at the University of Michigan. Over the course of the next year she will gain certification as a Registered Dietician and will offer nutrition counseling through her current practice at Kaizen Healing Arts.
