What is Naturopathic Medicine?

The origin of Naturopathy can be traced back to traditional healing arts of various cultures. However, as a formal system of medicine and healing, it was developed in the United States nearly one hundred years ago.

According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), naturopathic medicine is defined as a distinct, holistic, primary health care system, emphasizing prevention, treatment and optimal health through the use of natural therapeutic methods and substances. These methods are used to encourage the individual's inherent self-healing processes.

Naturopathic medicine is appropriate for the management of a broad range of health conditions affecting individuals of all ages.
