About Your Bodywork Session

Before Your Session

  • If it's your first time seeing Kelly, you will need to complete a health history form. She will go over the completed form with you and discuss your reasons for getting bodywork, your physical and emotional condition, and any goals you may have. She may also check the alignment of your body. Please provide accurate and complete information on your form as well as verbally. This information helps us make the  most of our time together.

  • Avoid eating a large meal for several hours before your session.

  • Be on time. If you arrive in a frenzied, rushed state, it will take longer to get to a relaxed state. Please let me know 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel.  If you cancel within 24 hours or do not show up for your scheduled appointment, you will be charged the full amount for the session.

  • Please wear/bring comfortable, loose fitting clothing that allows you to stretch. Cotton fabric with long sleeves and long pants are best. Women are encouraged to remove their bra and underwire bras are discouraged. You should also remove any jewelry or other articles that might interfere with your session.

  • Please respect the sensitivities of others by not wearing perfume/cologne, scented lotions, deodorants, hair products, and using fabric softeners the day of your appointment. .

During Your Session

  • Your Thai massage/Shiatsu bodywork session will be performed on a mat on the floor. Use of pillows and bolsters will help support your body in a comfortable position.

  • As much as possible, be receptive and open to the process. Deep breathing helps to facilitate relaxation. People often stop or limit their breathing when they feel anxious or when pressure is applied to a sensitive area. Staying focused on your breath throughout the session can be deeply healing.

  • Tightening up or contracting your muscles during the session is counterproductive. Unless you are asked to engage your muscles, you should focus on relaxing them.

  • Good communication is very important. During your session, report any discomfort and feel free to give feedback and discuss any apprehensions or concerns.

  • Some people like to talk during a bodywork session, while others remain silent. Sometimes talking can be a way of unburdening oneself or opening up. Often, being silent can be a way of letting go of thoughts and being present in the moment, thus facilitating healing.

  • Therapeutic grade essential oils can be used for aromatherapy, depending on your needs. These oils are 100% pure and natural, so sensitivities to them are rare. However, if you prefer that essential oils not be used during your session, please notify me ahead of time so that I can accommodate you..

After Your Session

  •  After your session, Kelly will provide some feedback and we will discuss any relevant issues. A home treatment program may be suggested. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions or bring up your concerns.

  • In the hours following your session, keep yourself warm and well hydrated. Allow for some open, quiet time if possible. It can be beneficial to take a little extra time to absorb and integrate the results of the session.

  • Bodywork has its greatest benefits over time. Relaxation deepens as the chronic patterns of stress are affected and released. Whether you are addressing specific health concerns or receiving bodywork for re-balancing, regular sessions are recommended as part of your health maintenance regime.
